IG Group: Hong Kong stocks face challenges in the prospect before 2025, and volatility in US stocks may intensify.
British listed company IG Group has released a market review for 2024 and an investment outlook for 2025, indicating that despite the Hang Seng Index successfully breaking a four-year downtrend this year and experiencing a strong rebound, the future prospects of the Hong Kong stock market are still full of challenges.
British listed company IG Group released a market review for 2024 and investment outlook for 2025, pointing out that despite the Hang Seng Index breaking its 4-year downtrend this year and experiencing a strong rebound, the outlook for the Hong Kong stock market remains challenging. IG market analyst Hebe Chen pointed out that the US President-elect Trump's return to the White House early next year will bring more uncertainties for economic recovery and regional stability. Regarding the US stock market, the bank's senior market analyst Christian Henke pointed out that the US stock market may face challenges of policy adjustments and increased market volatility next year, especially in the post-election year. According to historical data, post-election years are typically the weakest in the US presidential cycle, with the average index increase being only 4.8%. In addition, IG is bullish on Bitcoin and gold for next year. IG stated that the cryptocurrency market has steadily grown this year and is expected to see new breakthroughs next year. The appointment of a new chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is expected to bring a more moderate cryptocurrency regulatory policy, rebuilding market confidence. The active participation of institutional investors and fund inflows further support the upward potential of Bitcoin. It is anticipated that Bitcoin prices may reach $110,000 to $125,000 in January to February next year; with Ethereum targeting $3,800 to $4,000. Furthermore, amidst global economic uncertainty and geopolitical risks, gold as a traditional safe-haven asset will continue to be favored by investors. IG predicts that gold prices may challenge historical highs of $3,000 next year.
